WTC Show 33 - An Hour With Peter David
May 11, 2012 09:58 AM PDT
itunes pic

One of the coolest things ever is on this week as we give you almost a full hour of great audio with famous writer of stuff Peter David.

First after introductions is The Weekly News with Cub Reporter K, now proudly sponsored by Comicosity (http://www.comicosity.com/)

A loose format this week as no official WeViews but the Brett, Chris, Keith and Mo took the time to discuss quickly what they read with 3 huge books from IDW this week, John Byrne's Trio, Steve Niles & Bernie Wrightson's Frankenstein Alive, Alive & Night of A Thousand Wolves plus Vertigo's Mystery In Space and Marvel Zombies-Destroy

But the special treat this week is the time spent with Peter David. We all know he's a terrific writer but far more important than that (or than being a terrific artist, athlete, singer or whatever) is to be a terrific person, and Peter David was most certainly that to us. He both let Mo interview him for a few minutes and also allowed us to record the question and answer panel he did at the Calgary Expo where you not only hear stories about his work in comics but in video games and movies as well. His interactions he tell us about with Will Smith is truly classic. This is great for fans of not just comics but story telling in general, and we want to thank Peter David so much for his gracious ways.

So stream or listen, as Earthworm Jim would say, it's groovy

What's up bitches!

We Talk Comics is back after a 2 week hiatus with more awesomeness than you can imagine. The hosts are fresh off attending The Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo which has become one of the biggest events of it's kind in the world.

Join Brett, Keith, Chris & Mo with stories of some of the best moments of craziness from the show, what surprised them, who they talked to and more. You also get funny stories from here and other times the guys have interacted with comic book creators (Chris has some doozies). You'll also get insight, a peek as to what is coming up on WTC soon, and lots and lots of laughs.

Also we have an interview with superstar Marvel penciller Frank Cho, who was absolutely awesome!

Plus listen to WeViews of Mark Waid's new book Insufferable, the 4 new DC 52 Wave 2 books Earth 2, World's Finest, GI Combat and Dial H.

Finally we look at the brand new relaunch of Valiant as a publisher with X-O Manowar # 1 featuring an interview with that book's penciller the talented Cary Nord, who joins the show for the 2nd time.

So listen and enjoy the latest We Talk Comics. Honestly, it kicks ass!

We Talk Comics is here again with a review of the beginning of the 1st crossover in the new DC 52 universe Batman's Night Of Owls. Plus talk on The Shadow from Dynamite and Marvel's new trade paperback Six Guns, and much much more such as...

The weekly news with Cub Reporter K and the WTC hosts form a panel type discussion analyzing the thoughts and opinions of the previous show's interview with the writer of the Longbox Graveyard blog Paul O'Conner including...

Would digital price point drops grow the market, what is the right price for comic books in different forms? How do small press publishers make their mark in the digital marketplace? Should comics advertise in other mediums, why did readers from 20 years ago leave and will or can they come back, and does it matter if the medium of comics grows or not? And that's only a portion of what they hit!

Lots and lots of fun, so hit the Tweet or Facebook button and help spread the word of the goodness happening at We Talk Podcasts

This is a very special episode of We Talk Comics as we present you with something most unique and very cool, a conversation with Appy Entertainment Brand Director Paul O’Connor.

Now don't worry we didn't forget to bring The Weekly News with Cub Reporter K or WeViews on Marvel's Thor #12.1, Image's debut issue of America's Got Powers #1 or their new book from Jonathan Hickman Secret #1, Dark Horse Comic's Alabaster: Wolves #1 and Rich Johnston's Iron Muslim #1 from Boom Studios but...

This is largely about the chat Keith and Chris had with Paul discussing everything from digital comics and the future around them, how the app marketplace works, how Marvel or DC could and should react, what this means for smaller publishers, and about a billion other interesting topics. This is a simply amazing conversation that fortunately we all get to listen in on.

In addition to the knowledge Paul brings from working with an IOS app developer Paul has had published comic book work as a freelancer by such companies as Malibu (Ex-Mutants: The Shattered Earth Chronicles, Rune, etc)and runs a fantastic website with his blog http://longboxgraveyard.com/ where you can read his work and get all the social media info you need to follow him for more.

We want to thank Paul very much for his time, and hope to talk again real soon. So listen in on this conversation with a fascinating and brilliant man. As Harland Williams would say, What A Treat!

The Creator/Writer/Artist of one of the hottest independent books in years Joe Mulvey is an absolutely fantastic interview.

Smart, charismatic and extremely funny when Keith and myself talked to him for our March 2nd 2012 special edition podcast about his book SCAM it went well over 2 hours, and while nearly 90 minutes went into the show there was still a ton of fun stuff we had to leave out.

Because we thought you'd like to hear it here is a mash up of those extra moments, about 50 more minutes of Joe.

We really appreciate his time talking with us and hopefully he'll do so again in the future. For more of Joe Mulvey you can follow him on Twitter at @JoeMulv or at http://whatsthescam.net/ and also check out his publisher ComixTribe at http://www.comixtribe.com/

We Talk Music Special Edition - The Life And Times of Jani Lane Part 2

Warrant was my favorite band, and in most ways Jani Lane was Warrant.

When Brett texted me about Jani's passing I sent him a message about 20 minutes later telling him I wanted to do podcast on Jani and Brett said he was in. We've done some work to make it as good as possible pretty much every day since. That was on Aug.11 2011, today is Feb.1 2012 and it's finally ready. Today Jani would have been 48.

I never expected the project to be so big, or need so much work, but it was obvious soon in that it was incredibly personal to me, and I couldn't accept it not being done right in Jani's memory. I owed him at least that.

We've got rare stuff in here, music, interview clips, as well as our own thoughts and memories. I'm very very very proud of what Brett and I have accomplished, it really took my ever evolving vision and brought it into reality. I hope you all listen and enjoy. Happy Birthday Jani.

We Talk Comics is bringing geeky back with our latest show House of Mystery Topics with myself Mo (Twitter @Mo_WeTalk or email mo@wetalkpodcasts.com) Brett (Twitter @Brett_WeTalk or email brett@wetalkpodcasts.com), Keith (Twitter @CubReporterK or email keith@wetalkpodcats.com) & Chris (chris@wetalkpodcats.com)

This show's concept is simple, each of the 4 of us brought 2 topics we wanted to talk about and didn't tell the others what they would be. No research, no notes, and no help. House of Mystery topics let us have fascinating, funny and honest discussion on a host of topics.

Who wanted to know if a major publisher could ever successfully pull off a young reader line? Which one of us brought up the war of words between Alan Moore & Frank Miller? Someone asked for our favorite new universe titles, and should groundbreaking series receive sequels several years later? We pit Batman VS Spider-man, Wolverine vs Daredevil, Vertigo Vs Dark Horse and Star Wars Comics against Star Trek comics. Also Brian Wood's recent comments on digital comics, what makes us love the unique medium of comics in the first place, and how successful is Marvel's track record in turning a villain into a hero?

The amount of content on this packed and stacked show is staggering, and just awesome top to bottom. Plus it has me telling maybe my worst joke yet and Chris finding another new way to butcher his own email, so download or stream I promise you'll love it!!!

Hello, it's Ghastly Mo and for my birthday we're putting up a new episode of We Talk Comics for Halloween focusing in on horror comic books from past to present called WTC Show 12 - Geekhouse of Horror.

Join Spooky Brett(Twitter @Brett_WeTalk or email brett@wetalkpodcasts.com), Ghoulish Keith (Twitter @CubReporterK or email keith@wetalkpodcats.com) Creepy Chris(chris@wetalkpodcats.com)& myself (Twitter @Mo_WeTalk or email mo@wetalkpodcasts.com) as we bring the scares talking about:

The back story for EC Comics and Bill Gaines led by our own horror expert Chris. This also leads to a chance to talk a little more about seduction of the innocent and the history of censorship in comics since that's tied in so directly to horror books.

We then talk about the changing horror market over the years leading up to current horror books, their place in today's market and what we think the future holds, as well as the first horror books we can remember reading and look back at what they meant to us.

Then we throw out all our favorite horror stories in kind of a similar fashion to how we did the death books, one person going at a time.

Finally we review 3 independent books kind enough to have been sent to us:

Die Byron Die

Comic Book Junkie

Runners

So download or stream , but don't do it with the lights off, and Happy Halloween everyone!!!

October is here and in honor of Halloween We Talk Comics Episode 11 - Death Becomes Us is the long awaited and much talked about show on the afterlife in the comic book medium we've been talking about doing since the first episode.

Your hosts Brett (Twitter @Brett_WeTalk or email brett@wetalkpodcasts.com) Keith (Twitter @CubReporterK or email keith@wetalkpodcats.com) (chris@wetalkpodcats.com)& Mo (Twitter @Mo_WeTalk or email mo@wetalkpodcasts.com) cover 5 key categories in this episode including:

1: Best story lines with a death in them - your must reads

2: Best editorial decisions to kill a character - who it was good to have had die

3: Worst story lines with a death in them - burn these books

4: Worst editorial decisions to kill a character - they never should have done that... dummies

5: What characters died and should have stayed dead but didn't - they brought another dead character back to life?!

Then we discuss when Comic books deaths stopped meaning as much and if they'll ever mean anything again plus final thoughts

So listen to the show, a morbid discussion that's funny as heaven and hell when We Talk Comics tackles it, and we don't talk the new 52 at all!!!

Michael Corleone: Just when I thought I was out... they pull me back in.

Well we thought it was over, but the fallout from The New DCU 52 was too much to ignore

This episode Brett brings the stats from fan polls on book popularity and thoughtful mature analysis.

Keith brings news bits related to the big relaunch as well as a further study about our own reviews and how much we agreed or disagreed plus sales stats.

New regular co-host Chris brings a fresh new perspective into the show and some thoughts and opinions none of us had considered.

And myself Mo brings plenty of hot air and terrible jokes, plus a new topic on the importance of comic book characters having potential to influence positively the lives of young readers that sparks some of our usual great debate.

But be warned, if you embarrass easy don't listen to this show in public because I promise you at least 3 uncontrollable laugh out moments and plenty of other chuckles on the world's funniest comic book podcast.

So join in and listen to WTC episode 10, officially the best thing ever

Once more unto the breach as We Talk Comics returns talking such topics as best remaining properties to be turned into a major feature film, Elseworlds story lines, Brian Wood's future plans, if great talent means you can write commercial work as well as your own & if not a discussion on why that may be, the sobering thought of no comic book selling over 100K in sales in a month for the first time, a correction on the comiXology app from our last show, plus the debut of 2 new features.

First is "Burn These Books" a look at worst story lines, & our first choice is the 1998 "Superman Red/Superman Blue" disaster.

Next is "Fan Boy Review" where we look at how much respect the comic book origins of movies based on comics are given from a reader perspective. Our first review is of the 1982 Wes Craven film Swamp Thing & we follow with an interview with the lovely & talented Adrienne Barbeau where we talk with her about such topics as her thoughts working on the film, Maude, her ex husband John Carpenter, Carnivàle, how proud she is of her work in the brilliant Alice Jacobs Is Dead (2009) zombie short film, and much more.
